Bagamoyo Child Carers Association
Bagamoyo Child Carers Association
The Bagamoyo Children Carers Association is a registered, non-governmental organization based in Bagamoyo. The aim is to support the initiatives of the government and other institutions to identify and solve the problems related to orphans in Bagamoyo. It is a voluntary community based charity, which is working with the aim to provide orphaned children and those of a poorer background with early Learning Education, childcare and ongoing support to them. BCCA is an organization with neither political nor religious affiliations or ambitions.
With assistance of Bagamoyo members, the community established this organization after having noted that many children were lacking the basic necessities such as food and clothing. It was realized that most of these children were orphans and were living with poor families as their parents had died. There are also children living in very difficult environments because their parents are too poor to assist their children. These children were therefore deprived of basic necessities such as food, education, clothing and accessibilities to health services.
There are approximately 120 children, aged 3-7 years old, split into 2 classes. There are 2 teachers/caregivers at this center, they also occasionally have volunteers from other organizations. Although many children have been orphaned, they do live with extended family and are not living at the center. The center’s goal is to provide these children with the beginning foundations of education.
