Bagamoyo Nursing Training Center

Bagamoyo Nursing School Training Centre was established in 1977 by the Tanzania Government; it was formerly known as Maternal Child Health Care with main the objective of supporting women and children on health issues.

In 1983 the Government restructured the program of the training centre and changed its name to Public Health Nursing School and its management was put under the Bagamoyo District council. At that time the training center was funded by USAID. Up to 2003 the centre used to accept a maximum of 38 students per year. Due to a great demand for nurses at government hospitals, the government came up with a new strategy of establishing a health dispensary in each village of Tanzania.

Therefore the number of students increased to a maximum of 50 students annually. The training centre is under intensive infrastructural development. Two dormitories for student accommodations, a dining hall, staff offices and classrooms are being built. The Government of Tanzania with the support of the World Bank funds all these projects.
The school offers a 3-year course run by three trained staff nurses graduates of the Muhimbili Medical Centre. A 1 year short course is also offered and is run by two nurses from other medical colleges.

Volunteers can share business knowledge, help write grant proposals, share practical experience with care giving, or teach basic English.
